Summary of the Book
Samuel is an orphan on the streets on England and he is always looking for excitement. Samuel gets a chance to ride a ship headed into a place not many people have gone: The New World. He rides with some other boys called James and Richard who are good friends and don't really like Samuel. But with help from Captain John Smith and Reverend Hunt, Samuel will learn a lot of valuable lessons in Jamestown.
At Jamestown they got in many battles. The Indians didn't like them and considered them trespassers. The Indians would do a small attack then run, the colonists weren't used to this new way instead of a full out battle but after the Indians found out the colonists had copper beads the Indians made peace and traded with them.Samuel is always wanting to battle and fight so captain John Smith teaches Samuel how to fight and even the Indian language. When John Smith goes to another tribe, Samuel has to spend almost a year with the Indians and he learned their culture and played their games and learned to hunt and he even started to look like an Indian. But just when Samuel thinks John smith is dead he comes back and Samuel goes back to Jamestown.
I really liked this book because there was a lot of action and a lot of different themes. The book is also my perfect reading level so I understood it. Another thing is it also teaches you about Jamestown and our history of our first successful English colony in America. I would recommend this book for someone who wants a good historical fiction book.
